Welcome to The Style Mind by S (aka me!), a space where fashion meets psychology, storytelling, and self-expression. Here, clothes aren’t just fabrics stitched together, but they’re reflections of who we are, what we long for, and how we navigate the world. Why we wear what we wear. Each post unpacks the hidden meanings behind style– from the characters who wear it on screen to the ways we use it in our own lives. Because in the end, fashion isn’t just about looking good… it’s about thinking deeply.

My name is Sophia and I am currently a 2nd year Psychology student at the University of Virginia and as much as I love Psychology, fashion will always be one of my first loves. I’ll never forget this anecdote my mom tells about me begging for a Disney Descendants Uma inspired dress that was this asymmetrical, sea-foam, ruffley number from a Kohl’s line, and how I told her “this is the new me” in response to my change of style. Or how I would show up to the 6th grade in dresses and big bows and ballet flats when everyone else was in leggings, hoodies, and sneakers. Or how in 9th grade I adopted the “boho chic” (aka Utah mom) look complete with rancher hats, flowy dresses, and all things soft pink and neutral. I have reinvented myself time and time again, and I want this to be a place of self-discovery and redefining my own personal style.

To be honest, the idea came to me after a 2.5 week binge watch of all 6 seasons of Gossip Girl for the first time when I became completely enamored by Serena and Blair’s wardrobes. New York City had also been living in my mind non-stop since my 3 trips that past summer, so my introduction to the Upper East Side took my NYC obsession to a new level. The night that I finished the show I was definitely feeling a void, maybe a little post-show depression, so I started dreaming up The Style Mind. What was something I could do that combined my studies in Psychology with my 15-year long love for clothing and the stories that it can tell? My mind just went crazy with the idea of developing a blog where I could get back into writing (another long lost love since starting college) and social media (flashback to my 3-year long tee shirt small business) with complete creative control. Character style analyses, fashion in film, style diaries documenting my own journey, trend psychology, and so much more! It’s part glossy mag, part diary, and full obsessed with why we wear what we wear.

I’m so excited to see where this might bring me, as I explore the fields of fashion and marketing. Think of this as your invitation to dress cute and think deeper because a great outfit turns heads, but a great mindset changes everything. Thanks so much for following along! Stay curious, stay chic…you’re in The Style Mind now!
